Breakfast according to the experts—is the most important meal of the day.  It “breaks” your fast from the night before…

And can get your metabolism blazing first thing.  But:

It’s not always the easiest meal to prepare—especially if you hit the snooze button too many times—or there’s a traffic jam in the bathroom.

Or you may be like me, and not have much of an appetite first thing in the morning.  Well guess what?

You’re not alone.  There are so many people who struggle with eating breakfast…

…and it could be preventing them from achieving what they want from their diet plans.

If you want to know how I start my day, my breakfast always includes:

*A whole grain item—when I include a whole-grain item, I feel full all morning, and I don’t have as many cravings hit me mid-morning.  And thanks to the fiber, I know that I am lowering my risk for future health ailments.

*Some fruit or vegetable—fruits and vegetables are easily digested carbs that provide my body with the vitamins and minerals I need to stay healthy and fit.   Sometimes, when I am in a rush, I add chopped banana to my oatmeal—and have a full and satisfying meal in no time at all.

*A lean protein—protein, such as eggs, nuts, and tofu, is a nutrient your body needs to build muscle. Protein also reduces appetite, so you can keep feeling full. When you combine protein and carbs, you get all the nutrients your body needs to burn fat and build muscle.

*A tall glass of water—first thing in the morning, I grab a glass of water.  This helps to get my appetite going and gets things moving in the right direction.  Water also fills you up, which might prevent you from overdoing it at breakfast.

To recap:

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day.  It jumpstarts your metabolism, and gives you the energy to make it all the way to lunch—without going off the deep end.   If you’re including everything from above, your breakfast is going to help you turn heads.
